Aaron Rodgers’ patience in finding a new team is reportedly affecting the market for another veteran quarterback.
The New York Jets announced last month that they were moving on from Rodgers following a disappointing two-year stint. The Jets have since landed former Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers QB Justin Fields to a two-year contract worth $40 million.
With Fields and Sam Darnold (he signed a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks worth $100.5 million) off the market, Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are the biggest free agent signal-callers available.
Interestingly, a new report from Bleacher Report NFL insider James Palmer indicates that Rodgers’ lack of a decision is affecting Wilson’s market.
Speaking on Underdog Fantasy Sports, Palmer reports that the Steelers and New York Giants appear to be the two finalists for Rodgers. Additionally, Palmer said that Rodgers’ decision also impacts Russell Wilson’s future:
“And Rodgers’ decision is directly tied to Russell Wilson’s future. If Aaron Rodgers decides to go to the Steelers, look for Wilson to land in New York with Brian Daboll and company. Now if Rodgers ends up with the Giants, does Russell Wilson go back to the Pittsburgh Steelers? We’ll see, they’ve kept dialogue open.”
Following his release from the Denver Broncos, Wilson signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh worth the veteran’s minimum. He missed the first six games with a calf injury but looked like his old self early on, leading the Steelers to victories in six of his first seven starts.
But Wilson and the Steelers dropped their final four regular season games before losing to the Baltimore Ravens on Wild Card Weekend. And yet, despite the disappointing finish, it appears there’s a good chance that Wilson gets another chance in Pittsburgh.
Aaron Rodgers Can Still Play At A High Level

As disappointing as the 2024 season was for the Jets, Rodgers proved he has some quality football left in him. The longtime Green Bay Packers star completed 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions behind one of football’s worst offensive lines.
If Rodgers went to Pittsburgh, he’d join an offense with a steady o-line and a new dynamic receiving tandem in D.K. Metcalf and George Pickens.
