Trump confirms the end of billionaire Elon Musk in the US government

In addition to Mr. Trump, his deputy also made comments that showed signs that billionaire Elon Musk was about to end his government work.

According to AP, US President Donald Trump announced on April 3 that Mr. Elon Musk may leave the US government in the “next few months”, the clearest sign that the US President’s most powerful and controversial advisor is about to end his work in the government.

Speaking on Air Force One, Mr. Trump said: “Elon is great but he has many companies to run.”

“I want him to stay as long as possible,” the US President stressed. “But there will come a time when he has to leave.” When asked when that might happen, the White House boss said it could be “a few months.”

In an interview with Fox News on April 3, US Vice President JD Vance also commented on this. 

“And yes, the work of the Department of Government Efficiency — DOGE — will continue after Elon leaves, but importantly, Elon will remain a friend and advisor to both me and the President,” Vance stressed.

“He has done a lot of good. People don’t realize how bloated and unmanageable the bureaucracy has become. We have only just begun to cut through the redundancies, but there is still a lot of work to be done. This is not going to be done in six months. It is going to take a sustained effort and a sustained commitment,” the vice president added.

Elon Musk heads DOGE – an agency that plays a major role in streamlining and reforming the federal apparatus – and became a special government employee after Mr. Trump took office on January 20.

According to the AP news agency, DOGE was originally formed as an independent advisory board co-led by Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy – a biotechnology entrepreneur.

However, after Mr Ramaswamy left to run for governor of Ohio, DOGE became part of the administration, with a team of many of Mr Musk’s allies dispatched throughout the bureaucracy to cancel contracts, access sensitive data and push for spending cuts.

Legally, Mr. Musk can only work in government for 130 days a year as a special employee.

According to AP, Mr. Trump’s April 3 statement came after a series of speculations over the past week that Mr. Musk’s time in the administration was coming to an end.

On April 1, Mr. Musk also encountered obstacles in the state of Wisconsin when voters rejected the state Supreme Court candidate that Mr. Musk supported, even though this American billionaire had personally contributed more than 21 million USD and directly participated in the campaign last weekend.

Mr. Musk also faces many problems at Tesla – his electric car company – when sales in the first 3 months of the year decreased by 13%.
