Caitlin Clark promised her teammate, Aliyah Boston, that she would assist her in paying a fine resulting from a technical foul during a heated contest between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky on Saturday.

The WNBA game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse saw Clark reignite her rivalry with Angel Reese. This time, it was Clark and her team who had the last laugh, as the Fever triumphed 93-58 over their Sky rivals before a home audience.

As expected, there were a few confrontations between Clark and Reese, most notably when the former fouled the latter while chasing a rebound. Both Clark and her teammate, Boston, were penalized for the clash. Boston received a technical foul for what was described as a “physical taunt.”

“The foul on Clark met the criteria for Flagrant Foul 1, for wind up, impact, and follow through for the extension of the left hand to Reese’s back,” an official said of the incident.

“Which is deemed not a legitimate basketball play, and therefore deemed unnecessary contact. After the foul, there is a physical taunt technical on Boston and a verbal technical on Reese, which offset.”

During post-game media duties, Boston was unaware that she had been penalized. After a reporter mentioned the decision, a surprised Boston interjected: “Wait, what. I got the tech? Oh no!”

Clark discussed the collision, noting: “Let’s not make it anything that it is not. It was just a good play on the basketball. I’m not sure what the ref saw to upgrade it, and that’s up to their discretion.

“It’s a take foul to put them at the free-throw line. I’ve watched a lot of basketball in my life, that’s exactly what it was. I wasn’t trying to do anything malicious. That’s not the type of player I am… I went for the ball, clear as day in the replay.

“You watch it, you know it shouldn’t have been upgraded. Again, that’s up to the refs’ discretion, but I appreciate AB having my back.”

Boston showed she wasn’t pleased with the ruling against her, even suggesting Clark split the fine with her.

Having her teammate’s back, she replied: “Don’t worry, I’ve got you,” before they shared a moment of laughter.

Reacting to Clark’s gesutre, one fan wrote on X: “This is too good! Aliyah Boston’s reaction is priceless, and Caitlin Clark stepping in like that with the I got you moment? That’s what teammates are for! The banter between them is unreal.”

Another fan added: “Caitlin is the best” – while a third added: “CC ‘I got it don’t worry.’ I love these girls.”

The face-off between Clark and Reese was not new to the court.

Their contest has been chronicled through the years, stretching from their college playdays into their professional careers in the WNBA. Reese also weighed in on Saturday’s incident, albeit opting to play her response close to the vest.

When pressed about the encounter, Reese simply called it: “A basketball play.”

A follow-up query came during the press conference, only to be promptly cut off by a Sky representative, instructing the media that the 23-year-old had addressed the matter.
