Sophie Cunningham Reveals Her Fever ‘Bestie’ — and It’s Not Caitlin Clark
One of the reasons the Indiana Fever brought in Sophie Cunningham to the squad during the offseason is for her to play the enforcer role in the squad. The veteran guard proved it earlier this season as well when she decided to take down Jacy Sheldon in their game against the Connecticut Sun on June 17.
Sheldon was called for a flagrant foul for poking Clark in the eye earlier in the contest. Cunningham would get her revenge toward the end of the game with a hard foul on Sheldon during a fastbreak play, which led to a heated physical altercation between them.
Cunningham got herself ejected from the game because of her actions, which did not seem to be an issue for her. After all, in a way, it was Cunningham proving that she’s willing to go above and beyond to protect Clark — and the rest of her Fever teammates, for that matter.
As it turns out, though, Clark isn’t Cunningham’s “bestie” on the squad. Despite the latter’s willingness to defend the Fever superstar at all costs, there is, apparently, at least one more member on the squad who Cunningham is closer to than Clark.
That teammate is Lexie Hull, who took to Instagram on Wednesday to share some of her favorite moments from the Fever’s Commissioner’s Cup championship win on Tuesday.
Cunningham was one of the first Fever players to react to Hull’s post, and the former took the opportunity to express her support for her “bestie.”
“go bestie go bestie gooooo 🔥” Cunningham wrote in the comments section.
Based on her response, it appears that Cunningham considers Hull to be her best friend on the squad. The fact that they’ve become so close over the span of such a short time — it was only in February that Cunningham joined the Fever — speaks volumes about the chemistry on this team both on and off the floor.
These relationships will be pivotal for the Fever as they look to add another piece of hardware to their Commissioner’s Cup trophy by the end of this season.
