‘Makes No Sense!’ — Fever Star Caitlin Clark Sends Bold Message to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert

The Indiana Fever defeated the Minnesota Lynx in the finals to claim the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. With the victory, the Fever earned a $500,000 prize pool; ironically, the prize pool of the entire WNBA playoffs.

In addition, the Fever players will receive $5000 in cryptocurrency from the Commissioner’s Cup sponsor, Coinbase. Caitlin Clark, who didn’t play the game due to injury, seemed bothered by the prize money disparity.

Caitlin Clark Addresses Cathy Engelbert With Bold Statement

Soon after the Fevers’ Commissioner’s Cup triumph, Clark appeared on the Instagram lives of several of her teammates, including Aliyah Boston and Sydney Colson. Her goofy celebration went viral on social media.

In addition to the goofy celebrations, a bold statement she delivered on Colson’s Instagram Live is now making the rounds on social media. Directing her take at WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, Clark said, “We get more for [the Commissioner’s Cup] than you do if you’re a [WNBA] champion. Makes no sense. Someone tell Cathy to help us out.”

Colson, who was in the background, along with other Fever players whose voices can only be heard, seemed to agree with Clark’s bold demand

Engelbert has been the WNBA Commissioner since July 2019. She took over the reins from Lisa Borders after a 33-year career with Deloitte. The 60-year-old made history when she became the company’s CEO, the first female to hold the position.

During her term as Deloitte’s CEO, the company’s revenue increased substantially, which is likely what the WNBA fans and players hope for. The prize money for the WNBA champion is $249,900, with each player on the team getting $20,825. The runners-up earn $92,952, with players getting $7,746 each. Players on teams who lost in the second round earn $3,123, while those who exited in the first round get $1,616 each.

Notably, the finals MVP earns an extra $15,450, separate from the $500,000 prize pool. Ever since Clark’s arrival after her massive success at the collegiate level, the WNBA’s popularity has risen. Many believe that Clark is the X-factor who could determine the league’s ceiling in finance and popularity.

Clark Fan Goes Viral With Chilling Message at Commissioner’s Cup

Despite Clark’s footprints in the WNBA’s recent rise in viewership and popularity, many believe that some league players are jealous of her impact. The recent voting for the WNBA All-Star players has fueled those rumors.

While Clark received the most votes from the fans and third from the media as a guard, she received only the ninth most from her WNBA colleagues. Clark fans have taken issue with the sentiment among the WNBA players.

At the Commissioner’s Cup, one fan showed a placard that read, “9th in your rankings, but 1st in your nightmares.”

Ironically, Allisha Gray, who got the most votes from her colleagues and the media, was seventh in the fan voting.
