Dharmendra. The shining star of the Indian film industry whose light has illuminated the film world for years and will continue to do so.
Born in a small village, Dharmendra fulfilled his dreams with sheer willpower and achieved everything millions of people dream of.
Even in his 80s, Dharmendra’s passion for acting is palpable and inspiring.
Dharmendra’s childhood was spent here
Dharmendra’s father, Kewal Kishan Deol, was the headmaster of the government school in Lalton Kalan. He lived with his family in a rented house in Lalton Kalan.
Dharmendra’s childhood was spent in Lalton Kalan. He studied there until the 10th grade, in the same school where his father was the headmaster.
When Dharmendra grew up to become a major name in the film world, the people of Lalton Kalan village swelled with pride. He eagerly awaited Dharmendra’s return to the village.
But years passed, and Dharmendra never returned. Then, one night in 2002, Dharmendra arrived in Lalton Kalan. It was 9:30 p.m.
Dharmendra knocked on the door of a house. It belonged to a farmer. A woman emerged from the house. Dharmendra asked the woman which was Ram Singh’s house.
The woman recognized Dharmendra and greeted him with folded hands. The woman even offered to let Dharmendra into her house. However, Dharmendra said he wanted to reach Ram Singh’s house as soon as possible.
Ram Singh was the man whose house Dharmendra and his family used to rent. The woman escorted Dharmendra to Ram Singh’s house.
Ram Singh couldn’t believe his eyes.
The door of Ram Singh’s house was knocked. With sleep weighing down his eyelids, Ram Singh opened the door after a few minutes.
And when Ram Singh saw Dharmendra standing in front of his door, his sleep vanished instantly. Ram Singh couldn’t believe that the biggest star of Indian cinema was standing before him.
The same Dharmendra who used to play with him as a child. A short while later, Ram Singh’s son, Randhir, also arrived. It took Randhir a few seconds to believe that the Dharmendra, whose childhood stories his father had been telling him since childhood, had come to his house today.
Ram Singh welcomed Dharmendra into his house. Although he was a little hesitant, the reason for his hesitation was that his modest-looking house was now hosting a superstar like Dharmendra.
But Dharmendra sat in Ram Singh’s house without any hesitation, just as he used to sit in this house in his childhood. There was a smile on Dharmendra’s face, and that smile seemed to increase his radiance many times over.
News of Dharmendra’s arrival spread like wildfire in the village.
In a short time, the news of the arrival of film star Dharmendra spread throughout the village. In a village where people usually fall asleep by 10 p.m., it felt like a festival.
Most of the villagers started coming towards Ram Singh’s house. When Dharmendra heard about the growing crowd, he came and sat in a buggy parked outside Ram Singh’s house.
Everyone who saw Dharmendra that night felt blessed. Some villagers brought milk and jalebi for Dharmendra, while others brought corn bread and mustard greens for him.
The photographer also arrived
A crowd gathered outside Ram Singh’s house to see Dharmendra. One man even woke up the village photographer, Balwinder Dhillon.
Whoever got the chance, took a photo with Dharmendra. Balwinder Singh ran out of rolls in no time. So those who couldn’t get a photo with Dharmendra were eager to shake his hand.
The frenzy was so intense that people were pushing each other to reach Dharmendra.
Some even got into a fight. Then Ram Singh showed Dharmendra something that moved him to tears. It was a very old photo. A photo of Dharmendra’s father.
Gave a Shagun to a Friend’s Daughter
From Ram Singh’s house, Dharmendra went to the house of his childhood friend, Surjeet Singh. Surjeet had died a few years ago.
Dharmendra found Surjeet’s wife and daughter there. After talking for a while, when Dharmendra left, he gave some money to Surjeet’s daughter as a Shagun.
Nearby was the house of Dharmendra’s other friend, Ranjeet Singh. Dharmendra went there too. He learned that Ranjeet had also died a long time ago. Dharmendra also gave shagun to Ranjeet’s son, Bittu.
That night became memorable.
Dharmendra joked around with some of the young boys from the village and shared stories from his childhood. He was delighted with the warmth with which the villagers welcomed him.
Finally, at around 11:30 pm, Dharmendra set off for Ludhiana. That night became a memorable one for the people of Lalton Kalan village.
