It’s been five months since my divorce. I brought my new girlfriend home to introduce her to my ex-wife and tease her, but as soon as I opened the door, I was greeted by this scene.
Divorced five months ago, I brought my new girlfriend home to tease my ex-wife, who never imagined I’d be greeted by this scene as soon as she opened the door…
My name is Rahul. I’m 35 years old. I divorced my wife, Priya, exactly five months ago. Our marriage lasted six years, then broke down due to minor disagreements that led to an irreparable distance. The day I left the Lucknow court, I felt relieved, thinking I’d escaped that “suffocating” life.
A few weeks later, I met Neha—seven years younger than me, beautiful, and talkative. Neha’s beauty made me feel like I’d been reborn, as if I were reliving my youth. And then, in a moment of impulsiveness, I had the idea of introducing Neha to Priya, to prove that my “new life” was happier.
That day, the weather was cool in late autumn. I got dressed and took Neha to the old house where Priya used to live. Neha hesitated a little and asked softly:
“Should you really do this? I feel… a little strange.”

I sarcastically said:
“What strange? I just want to show her that losing you means losing the world.”
We stopped the car in front of the gate. My heart was pounding, not with excitement, but with the joy that was building up inside. I rang the bell. I heard familiar footsteps coming from inside the house. The door opened… and in that instant, I froze.
The scene before my eyes stunned me.
Priya wasn’t the only one opening the door. Next to her, a little girl of about four years old was clinging tightly to her mother’s skirt, her big, round eyes staring at me in surprise. But what made me feel like someone had punched me in the chest was… Behind them, a tall, simply dressed man with warm eyes was casually placing his hand on Priya’s shoulder—as if they had been together for a long time.
Priya looked at me, her voice calm and unperturbed:
“Rahul, what are you doing here?”
I stammered:
“This…this…?”

The other man stepped forward and extended his hand:
“I am Amit, Priya’s fiancé. And this girl is my daughter. Now she considers Priya her mother.”
My face burned. The words “fiancé” stabbed my pride like a knife. I tried to smile, but my throat was choked, and I couldn’t speak.
Neha stood next to me, clearly shocked. She gently pulled my hand, signaling me to turn around, but I stood there, as if nailed to the ground. I couldn’t believe it—the woman I thought was weak and would suffer after a divorce—was now so radiant, calm, and strong.
Deep shock
Priya said softly, but loud enough for me to hear every word:
“Rahul, you don’t need to prove anything. We both have a new life, and I wish you happiness.”
With that, she turned to pick up the baby and smiled softly at Amit. At that moment, I realized—she had completely moved on from the past, while I was still trapped in my ego and self-satisfaction.
I turned around, my hands clenched, an indescribable feeling welling up in my heart—not jealousy, but a crushing emptiness. As I walked back, Neha was silent, and all I could hear was my own heartbeat, each beat louder and louder.
A Late Lesson
That night, I lay awake. Priya’s calm eyes and her smile standing next to Amit kept coming back to me. I realized one thing:
Happiness isn’t something to pretend or “tease,” but something to cherish and preserve for as long as possible.
And I lost it forever.
