Even two days after Priya’s funeral, the atmosphere in that small house in a village in Bihar was heavy as lead. Her husband, Amit, had barely slept, his eyes dark with grief at his wife’s loss. Priya had died suddenly in a motorcycle accident while returning home from the market, leaving him and their seven-year-old son alone.
Although the doctor had concluded that the cause was a severe brain injury, Amit was still in agony, feeling that something about his wife’s death remained unexplained.
At midnight, unable to bear the agony, Amit quietly walked a few hundred meters from the house, carrying a bundle of incense.
