Social media explodes with the real reason why fan Caitlin Clark was sent off during the Fever-Sun match/hi
There were a number of contentious moments during Tuesday’s tightly contested affair between the Connecticut Sun and the Indiana Fever.
One of them was an incident with a Fever fan sitting courtside. The spectator, who was seen wearing a Caitlin Clark shirt, was escorted by security out of TD Garden after Sun rookie Saniya Rivers pointed him out to the referee.
It was not immediately clear what the fan in question did that led to such a drastic measure from arena security. Rivers herself, however, shed light on the incident after the game
According to Sun reporter Emily Adams, Rivers said after the game that it was a specific comment from a fan that led to his removal from the game. While the 6-foot-1 guard did not reveal what the fan actually said, Rivers clarified that the spectator “did not touch her.”
In a post from another Sun reporter, Maggie Vanoni, it was revealed that a representative of the Sun PR team confirmed that the fan did not touch Rivers. He did, however, say something “inappropriate,” which prompted the 22-year-old rookie to bring it to the attention of team staff and arena security.
As for the game, it was the Fever who came out on top, 85-77. The victory, however, was overshadowed by Clark’s last-minute injury, which appears to have been an aggravation of the same groin issue that kept her out for five consecutive games in June and July.
