Annoyed Caitlin Clark Has Some Words For Reporters As They Questioned Her About Taking Dirty Hit From Suns’ Marina Mabrey
Caitlin Clark took a shove. She brushed it off. Tuesday night’s game between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun didn’t lack drama, but Clark refused to fan the flames. In the third quarter, Jacy Sheldon caught her across the face on a reach-in foul.
As Clark exchanged words with Sheldon, Marina Mabrey stepped in and knocked the Fever rookie to the floor. It was a clear escalation, but Clark made one thing clear after the game, she wasn’t going to let it take center stage.
The physical play and rising tension eventually boiled over when Sophie Cunningham pushed back in the final minute. Emotions ran high, and by the time the press conference rolled around, the media was ready to dig in. But Clark wasn’t interested in headline bait.

“You guys came for basketball, let’s talk about basketball,” Clark said, shutting down any talk of Mabrey’s shove. “Come on now. We’re going to the Commissioner’s Cup Championship, that’s pretty exciting. Y’all wanna talk about that? Let’s talk about that.”
Her head coach, Christie Sides, didn’t mince words either. “I think it was pretty obvious that stuff was brewing,” she told reporters. “When the officials don’t get control of the ball game, when they allow that stuff to happen, this is what happens.”
While Sides pointed the finger at the officiating crew, Clark kept her focus on what’s next. The Fever’s spot in the Commissioner’s Cup Final is a big moment for the franchise, and Clark knows it. Her refusal to stir the pot didn’t go unnoticed, either. WNBA fans praised her for shifting the narrative back to basketball.
Clark’s response was calm, direct, and centered on the team. No theatrics. No drama. Just a rookie who’s learning to handle the spotlight and choosing to keep it where it belongs, on the game.
The Fever return to the court Thursday night against the Golden State Valkyries. Expect the discussion to continue
