FOX star left baffled by Caitlin Clark snub as he makes stance perfectly clear
Time Magazine released its list of the 100 Most Influential People on Wednesday, with Caitlin Clark not making the cut despite being named as the publication’s 2024 Athlete of the Year
Colin Cowherd has compared Caitlin Clark’s impact on the sport to that of Tiger Woods after expressing his outrage over her omission from Time Magazine’s latest list.
Clark has been a sensation since her college basketball days with the Iowa Hawkeyes, where she led them to multiple Big Ten championship titles and NCAA final appearances.
Once she made it in the professional world as the number one draft pick for the Indiana Fever, the 23-year-old was nothing short of phenomenal in her first WNBA season. The point guard catapulted her team into their first playoffs since 2016 and won the Rookie of the Year title with an overwhelming majority of votes.
Following her outstanding debut, she earned the title of Time Magazine’s Athlete of the Year, but she didn’t make it onto their 100 Most Influential People list. Instead, the magazine featured seasoned WNBA stars and Unrivaled co-founders Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, among other notable names – leaving Cowherd dumbfounded.
Speaking on his FOX Sports Radio podcast, The Herd, Cowherd said: “On the Time Magazine list of the 100 most influential people in America, they did not have Caitlin Clark on the list, but they had two other WNBA players.
“They had a bunch of other athletes, I love Jalen Hurts – I don’t think he is one of the 100 most influential people, I love him. And it just struck me.
“I had so many people reach out to me on this yesterday so I just want you to think of ‘words matter’ – Influential. Influential is the word Time magazine used.

“She played one year at pro basketball in a small market for the worst team in the league and she literally changed the entire financial makeup of the league – that defines influential.”
Cowherd also noted the significant increase in viewership and attendance in the WNBA, attributing it to Clark’s presence.
“The WNBA had its most watched season in 24 years, its highest attendance in 22 years, and set records for digital consumption and merchandise sales last year. That is all Caitlin Clark. Six WNBA teams have already preemptively – for their games with Caitlin Clark – moved to bigger venues,” he added.
Clark has been an unprecendented sensation in the WNBA
Cowherd even compared the young basketball star to golf icon Woods for her drawing power. The 61-year-old continued: “Time Magazine is telling me she went from Athlete of the Year in America in December and by April, she’s less influential than Breanna Stewart.
“I’m not gonna buy that argument. Play the hits! You think folks upstairs in baseball coverage go, ‘We’ve done a lot of Aaron Judge, [Shohei] Ohtani, Juan Soto. Anybody checked the Mariners’ schedule lately? Can we squeeze them in?’ That’s never been a discussion.
“The only athlete in my life that I can think of that compares to Caitlin Clark, and it’s not a team sport, it’s golf, is Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods literally got people to a television on Sunday. For a decade, it was Sopranos after Tiger Woods’ round. He changed American viewing habits.”
