A 75-year-old man orders 14 bottles of mineral water every day. The delivery person becomes suspicious and calls the police. Everyone is stunned when the door opens…
I’m Manoj – I work as a mineral water delivery agent at a small agency in a town in Uttar Pradesh. The work is demanding, but it helps me earn a stable living. Among my many customers is a 75-year-old man who has left an unforgettable impression on me.
He orders 14 bottles of 20 liters of mineral water every day. Regularly, without missing a single day. When I first received the order, I thought he might have opened a restaurant or was supplying to a group. But when I arrived at the address, I saw it was a small, old house at the end of a deserted street.
The strange thing is that he didn’t let me in; he just opened the door slightly and placed the money in an envelope. I placed the 14 bottles in front of the door and turned away, not hearing a sound from inside. I kept wondering: How could an old man living alone use so much water every day?
After half a month, things became even more suspicious. Normally, a large family uses only 1-2 bottles of water a week, but this old man used 14 bottles of water every day. One day, I asked him softly:

Sir, why do you use so much water?
He just smiled lightly, didn’t answer, and then quietly closed the door. There was something mysterious about his smile, which made me think for a long time.
I began to worry: was someone taking advantage of him? Or was something unusual happening in that house? After thinking for several days, I decided to call 112 and report it.
The next day, some policemen from the local police station and I arrived in front of the house. When I knocked on the door, the old man calmly came out. But when the police asked to come in and investigate, he paused and then slowly nodded.
The door opened slightly… and we were all stunned. Inside, there was no scary scene. Instead, dozens of large plastic bottles were neatly arranged, filled with pure mineral water. Each bottle was carefully marked: “For the neighbors,” “For the public primary school,” “For the PHC health center,” “For the Anganwadi,” “For the Hanuman temple near the market”…
The police and I were astonished. Seeing our faces, the elderly man smiled gently:
— I’m old, I can’t help much. I just feel that the poor people around here lack clean water. I ordered a lot of water, and every day I asked the neighborhood children to come and collect and distribute it. The needy get drinking water for free.
My eyes filled with tears when I heard this. It turned out that the old man had been quietly doing charitable work for so long. These 14 bottles of water daily were a symbol of his love for the poor and for thirsty children in the scorching heat.
A policeman asked emotionally:
—What a noble deed you do. But why didn’t you tell anyone, causing so many people distress?
The old man smiled gently, his voice trembling:
—I don’t want to show off. As long as everyone has clean drinking water, I’m at peace.
It turned out that he was a former soldier in the Indian Army. Having participated in the war, he understood the value of every sip of water. When he grew old, he used his pension to buy mineral water and gave it to everyone around him.
That day, both the policeman and I were moved. The image of that 75-year-old man, frail but kind-hearted, was one we will never forget.
From then on, I wasn’t just a “water delivery person.” I actively helped him deliver water to distribution centers and share it with people. Gradually, many people in the city learned of his story and became involved. Several donors donated money to help him continue his charitable work.

A month later, when I returned, I saw that his courtyard was more bustling than ever. Several children were carrying water bottles, laughing and playing, chatting innocently. Next to him was an old man with gray hair and eyes shining with joy.
I suddenly understood: sometimes, even the strangest things hide good things. If I hadn’t been suspicious that day and called the police, I would never have guessed that behind that half-closed door lay such a tolerant heart.
And whenever I think of the image of “that 75-year-old man who ordered 14 bottles of mineral water every day,” my heart warms. Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, there are still people who quietly sow seeds of goodness, making this world more trusting and loving.
