‘Insane level of hate’: Malicious comments directed at Caitlin Clark prompt WNBA fans to push for boycott of ESPN…/hi

An ESPN analyst is under fire following some harsh comments she made about Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark. Basketball analyst Carolyn Peck suggested that the Fever were a better team on the court with Clark sidelined due to a groin injury.

“I think that Indiana is even more dangerous when Caitlin Clark doesn’t play,” Peck said, “because she’s a ball-dominant guard. The ball is in her hands a lot, so you know what you need to try to take the ball away.”

Peck credited the Fever’s three-game winning streak to explosive play from Clark’s supporting cast. Clark has not played on the court since Indiana’s 94-86 win over the Seattle Storm on June 24, when she scored just six points on 23.1% shooting.

Clark is averaging 18.2 points, five rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game this season. The second-year WNBA star was ruled out of Saturday’s game against the LA Sparks.

Peck credited Fever players like Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and Aari McDonald as a “threat” to do damage in the WNBA while Clark is sidelined.

Many fans didn’t take Peck’s comments well, with some advocating that WNBA fans boycott the ESPN network for attacking Clark.

“Always disliked her takes. She’s the worst,” wrote a fan.

“Crazy levels of hate for the person who brought wnba to relevancy,” argued a poster.

“Who watches ESPN bro? Boycott that useless network,” advocated a fan.

“I stopped watching sports center which was a staple. Now I just watch highlights on YouTube,” posted another.

“ESPN’s narrative continues,” believes a poster.

“Huge Caitlyn Clark fan, I think Peck is right. Right now Caitlyn only scores off of tough 3’s or breaking her defender down. When she tries to go to the basket she is met with at least a 2nd and sometimes 3rd defender. They need to move her around like the Warriors did with Curry,” wrote one fan who agrees with Peck.
