Sophie Cunningham, who is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, has been the target of numerous WNBA fines over the season as she questions the league’s officiating

Sophie Cunningham revealed she received another fine from the WNBA after suggesting that Paige Bueckers receive a quick whistle.

On Sunday, Cunningham exited the Indiana Fever’s win over the Connecticut Sun after injuring her knee when Bria Hartley fell awkwardly into her. The 29-year-old clutched her right knee as she fell to the court in visible pain, leaving her family fuming and fans concerned.

The Fever confirmed Cunningham will miss the remainder of the season with a torn right MCL. Cunningham averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds and was putting together a solid first season in Indiana prior to her injury.

Earlier that week, the Caitlin Clark-less Fever fell 81-80 to the struggling Dallas Wings as Bueckers put up 16 points with eight assists and five rebounds. Indiana head coach Stephanie White and her players felt the referees were inconsistent in calling fouls, and Cunningham — who has been fined several times this season for criticizing WNBA officials — used her podcast to vent her frustration.

On her podcast ’Show Me Something,’ Cunningham expressed frustration regarding the officiating of the Fever’s tight loss to the Wings. She was most irked by the fact that referees allowed such limited physicality regarding Bueckers.

“I love Paige to death, do not get me wrong,” Cunningham said. “I think she’s a hell of a player and would love to play with her one day, but those refs were giving her every whistle last night. You literally couldn’t touch her, couldn’t touch her. That s— is so annoying to me. And if you’re going to do that, then to give it to our guards. I just hate the inconsistency.

Those comments have landed Cunningham in hot water once again with the WNBA. In the latest episode of her podcast, she said: “I’m officially three for three on being fined by the WNBA. They didn’t like my comments on Paige Bueckers.”

She added: “I didn’t even say anything bad! It’s insane.”

Cunningham will have more time to speak on her podcast and potentially test the anger of the WNBA as she is sidelined due to the injury sustained versus the Sun. Some fans and Cunningham’s family members suggested the collision was intentional, but Hartley clashed with Cunningham during her fall, which caused the Fever star to hobble and fall instantly.

Ahead of undergoing an MRI to confirm the severity of her injury, Cunningham stayed on social media to congratulate her teammates on the win. She even joined Clark in referring to Kelsey Mitchell as the league MVP

The reigning Rookie of the Year also reacted to Cunningham’s injury. Clark posted a photo of Cunningham in her Instagram Stories and wrote: “Love you, Soph always.”

Injuries have plagued the 19-16 Fever, who have lost guards Clark, Aari McDonald, and Sydney Colson for extended periods. Indiana, currently the No. 6 seed, is next in action against the 28-5 Minnesota Lynx on Friday, Aug. 22.
