10 years of husband’s adultery. The wife died in frustration, the lover jumped in to replace her, unexpectedly 5 months later she had to pay a very high price
The bright three-story house of Mr. Raymond Carter and Mrs. Maya in Westchester County, New York used to be the ideal model of the neighborhood. Everyone admired the gentle, hard-working woman: Mrs. Maya used to push a food cart at the weekend market, saved every penny for her husband to continue his studies, then saved up as capital for him to build a career. Thanks to her hard work, Mr. Raymond has the impressive property he has today.
But the more successful Mr. Raymond became, the more distant he became from his wife. The frequent “business” trips between Manhattan and New Jersey, the midnight calls, the shirts with the scent of strange perfume… All of these were like knives cutting into Mrs. Maya’s heart. She knew he had a lover—a young employee named Bianca Reed.
For ten years, Mrs. Maya silently endured. It wasn’t that she lacked the courage to leave, but because she loved her two young children. She feared that the broken home would take away their peaceful childhood. She buried her humiliation, praying day and night for her husband to wake up.
But that hope never came true.
Meals without Mr. Raymond gradually became a habit. The large house was only filled with the sound of a ticking clock. The accumulated depression, combined with her congenital heart disease, made her health weaker every day.
One late winter night, she was admitted to the emergency room at NewYork–Presbyterian. Holding her son’s hand, she choked up:
“I’m sorry… I can’t be with you longer. Love each other, and never betray those who sacrificed for you.”
Then she closed her eyes and passed away, carrying with her a sky full of resentment.
Before the smoke of mourning had cleared, Bianca had brazenly moved into the house. The woman who had been hiding behind Mr. Raymond now boldly replaced Mrs. Maya. The neighbors shook their heads in sorrow; The two children angrily left to live with their aunt in Queens, not wanting to share a home with their unfaithful father.
Mr. Raymond, blinded by infatuation, treated Bianca as his “new wife”. He thought that after years of hiding, he would finally live with “true love”. But life was not that simple.
Just five months later, the dark side began to emerge…. Bianca was not like Mrs. Maya, who knew how to manage. She was used to enjoying herself, spending lavishly: luxury cars, branded goods, luxury travel; she even urged Mr. Raymond to sell some of his shares to have money to “invest”. The business relationship gradually broke down because of Bianca’s deep intervention, rude words that made the partner lose face.
The climax: one morning, the bank sent a series of warnings—many corporate and personal accounts were emptied through international money transfers. Mr. Raymond was shocked to check and was shocked to discover: the series of transactions were all secretly carried out by Bianca.
He rushed home to Westchester. As soon as he opened the door, he heard Bianca’s cold voice on the phone:
“Do you think I really love him? I just need the money. Now that he’s old and penniless, why keep him?”
Mr. Raymond was stunned. Years of betrayal, many illusions, finally a slap from reality. He rushed in, but Bianca did not regret. She picked up her bag, put on sunglasses, threw a contemptuous look, and left.
Thinking she would escape, Bianca was detained by the police at JFK Airport under an order to prevent her from leaving the country. The embezzled money was related to the company’s general fund, and the evidence of the transfer was clear. From a “substitute wife”, Bianca became a defendant facing the law.
As for Mr. Raymond—lost both love and money, his honor was ruined. He was penniless, alone in a large house. Every night, he sat in front of his wife’s photo on the fireplace, lit a candle and cried:
— “Maya, I was wrong… If only I had the chance, I would never let you suffer.”
But it was too late. His good wife had gone, leaving behind two orphaned children and a heartbreaking lesson:
Adultery never brings happiness. Betrayal may give a few sweet moments, but the price to pay is a lifetime of bitterness
