After three years of childless marriage, my mother-in-law brought her husband’s mistress home to live with her.
Arjun and I have been married for three years. Our relationship is still strong, but the joy of parenthood has never come. My mother-in-law, Mrs. Kamala Devi, a conservative woman from Lucknow, always places great importance on carrying on the lineage.
Every meal, she would call me “useless” and “incapable of having children,” even though Arjun tried his best to protect me. These words stabbed me like a knife, forcing me to hide my face in tears while eating.

One rainy afternoon, when my mother-in-law brought home a young girl named Meera, with a large belly, it was the climax. She calmly announced:
“This is Meera; she will live here from now on. The blood of Arjun, the eldest grandson of this family, is in her.”
Arjun was stunned, and I was speechless. It was as if my entire world collapsed before my eyes. My mother-in-law told me to treat Meera as my sister and take care of that “precious womb.” Arjun looked at me guiltily, but couldn’t muster the courage to oppose his mother.
I couldn’t bear the humiliation. Living under the same roof with the woman who had taken away my happiness, and seeing her pregnant with her husband’s child, was beyond my control.
That night, I packed some clothes, placed my wedding ring on the table, and quietly left. Tears welling up, I told myself to forget everything and start life anew.
One Year Later – A Twist of Fate
One year later, my life had completely changed. I got a new job in Noida, bought a small apartment, and most importantly, I was carrying a little one.
One day, a twist of fate brought us together again. In a familiar Delhi café, I suddenly ran into Arjun and his mother-in-law. He looked incredibly tired.
I went in, my belly already too big for my face.
My mother-in-law looked at me, her eyes wide open, her mouth stammering:
You… you… your belly…
Arjun looked at me, his eyes confused—filled with both pity and surprise.
I just smiled—a smile of relief and triumph. I gently placed a piece of paper on the table.
The truth was revealed.
It was the DNA test result of Arjun and Meera’s unborn child. Written in bold letters:
“Parent-child relationship: No.”

Both were stunned. My mother-in-law trembled, Arjun’s face turned pale.
I pulled out another piece of paper—the results of a test from two years earlier.
“Conclusion: Abnormal sperm count, no ability to conceive naturally.”
What the doctor had diagnosed Arjun with was true. I kept it a secret so she wouldn’t worry or feel guilty.
My mother-in-law and Arjun looked at the two pieces of paper, their hands shaking, their eyes filled with tears. Mrs. Kamala slumped in her chair, and Arjun rested his head on the table, his face pale.
They had judged me, abandoned me, because of a truth they themselves didn’t know.
A Final Goodbye
As for me, I now carried an angel with me—the blood of the man who had loved me unconditionally for the past year.
I stood up, walked out of the shop, leaving behind the people I once called family.
There was only peace in my heart. I knew I had won—not by revenge, but by living a happier and stronger life.
