Angelina Jolie Reveals Her Son Is Now Living in Her Secret New York Apartment—and Says All 6 Kids Use It as a ‘Crash Pad’

Actress Angelina Jolie has revealed that at least one of her six children has relocated to the East Coast—and is now living in her former New York apartment, joking in a new interview that she is no longer allowed to visit the property unannounced.
Jolie, 49, who shares her kids with former spouse, Brad Pitt, 61, shared the update while speaking to the New York Times about her latest creative project, Atelier Jolie, a gallery-style space in a Manhattan building that was once owned by Andy Warhol and previously served as a studio for Jean-Michel Basquiat.
But rather than speak to the Times from the comfort of her own home, the “Salt” actress did the interview from inside a hotel room in the Big Apple, telling the outlet that her own New York abode had been taken over by one of her sons—although she neglected to reveal which one.
It’s likely, however, that the home is being used by one of her older boys: Maddox, 23, or Pax, 21.
Jolie purchased the apartment when she was in her 20s, long before she and Pitt began building up an extraordinary international property portfolio that was later ripped apart amid their very messy, yearslong divorce.

Over the years, the actress—who is thought to have bought the home when she was studying at NYU—has revealed very little about her dwelling in the Big Apple, although she did admit to the Times that she is no longer able to treat the space as her own, despite the fact that it serves as a “crash pad” for her other five children when they need it.
“The other day I said I was going to pop by, and he was like, can you just give me a day to clean?” she joked. “I thought, ‘I appreciate that, you should clean up for your mother. But also, how bad is it?’”
Luckily for the Oscar winner, she has other abodes that she can use—however, her main residence is located thousands of miles away on the West Coast, where she revealed in 2024 she has to remain until her youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, turn 18, per one of the stipulations in her divorce settlement.
There, Jolie resides in an opulent 11,000-square-foot property that was once owned by famed filmmaker and philanthropist, Cecil B. DeMille.
Jolie paid just under the $24.95 million asking price for the home more than seven years ago, forking out $24.5 million, although Realtor.com® now estimates that the property is worth around $37.4 million.
In addition to its many bedrooms and bathrooms, the Beaux Arts-style mansion, which was built in 1913, also offers an array of living spaces, including a “beautiful pool house” and a “studio house” that has its own entrance.
And while the home maintains its historic appearance, it underwent an extensive six-year renovation before Jolie purchased it—with the picture-perfect grounds and the swimming pool also given a meticulous overhaul.

“A newer classic old Hollywood style pool with arched fountains, surrounded by rolling lawns, specimen trees, rose gardens and dramatic views from the Observatory to Ocean sunsets,” the original listing description said.
Still, Jolie has made clear that she does not consider the property her forever home, telling The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024 that she plans to leave L.A. as soon as her youngest kids reach their milestone birthday.
“I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave,” she said, before explaining that she has not yet decided where she will settle down and may well travel between her properties or loved ones.
“When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here. [After Los Angeles,] I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world,” she continued.
Still, Jolie is making use of her Los Angeles home while she still has it—opening up the doors to her historic mansion so that it could be used by any of her friends who were displaced during the California wildfires.
According to People, Jolie was left “heartbroken” by the devastation caused by the historic blazes and was determined to do all she can to assist anyone who has been affected by the fires, including housing loved ones inside her own dwelling.
“Angie is heartbroken for those who have lost their homes, or are impacted by the fires,” an unnamed insider said at the time. “She’s doing everything she can to help, even opening
her home to friends who were forced to evacuate.”
