Caitlin Clark provides Fever with welcome injury update after Stephanie White admissionCaitlin Clark

After sitting out her team’s last five games due to a left groin injury, Indiana Fever (9-9) star Caitlin Clark is poised to make a comeback in Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries (9-9).

The second-year player from Indiana confessed that she will “try not to overdo it” upon her return to the court, aiming to put herself “in a good position going forward.” It comes after Clark made up her own rules with an unexpected WNBA All-Star draft trade.

This is probably welcome news for Fever coach Stephanie White, who disclosed last Friday that the competitive Clark “isn’t a fan of minutes restrictions.”

The former first-overall pick sat out five additional games earlier this season due to a quad injury, marking a disappointing year compared to Clark’s Rookie of the Year-worthy performance in 2024.

Above all, Clark is thrilled to be back on the court. “I think it’s just nice to get back out there and get into the flow of playing with my teammates again,” she shared with reporters during a team practice on Tuesday.

Clark was sidelined as her teammates pulled off an upset against the Minnesota Lynx, who hold the best record in the WNBA, in last week’s Commissioner’s Cup Final.

“It’s obviously hard sitting out and watching for a few weeks, so I’m definitely excited to get back out there…”I don’t know what type of minutes I’m gonna get or what it’s gonna look like. But when I’m out there I’ll compete [and] play hard.

White was questioned last week about the possibility of Clark returning for the Fever’s weekend match against the Los Angeles Sparks, but the Indiana coach expressed a desire to have her star player fully fit.

“If there is going to be a minutes restriction, maybe we’ll hold her another game,” she conceded. “I prioritize her long-term health and wellness and making sure that when she comes back, she’s 100 percent.

In nine games this season, Clark is averaging 18.2 points on 39 percent shooting (29.5 percent from three), along with 8.9 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. She sees areas where she can enhance her performance upon her return.

“I think finding the balance and finding ways to give the defense different looks,” Clark stated regarding her objectives for her comeback.”

“And, you know, me becoming a better screener and coming off of screens, and screening for [Kelsey Mitchell], all that different type of stuff that makes that a whole other layer of things that the other team has to prepare for.
