Cheryl Reeve voices WNBA All-Star complaint after Caitlin Clark decision

Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve has been named as an All-Star coach once again, while being made aware that she’ll be working with Caitlin Clark as her captain this year

Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve is surprised by only two of her players making the All Star team

Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve has admitted she’s confused by only two of her players being named to the WNBA’s 2025 All-Star team, despite dominating so far this season. It comes as LA Sparks star Dearica Hamby voiced her disappointment over a notable All-Star snub – while Lynx ace Courtney Williams amusingly missed an initial call from commissioner Cathy Engelbert, who wanted to share the news about her selection.

The Lynx have an incredible 17-2 record in 2025, sitting five wins ahead of any other team in the league, and look like the clear favorites to win the WNBA title. While Reeve has been named one of the head coaches, with Napheesa Collier being the captain of one of the teams, only one other player on the Lynx has made the All-Star roster.

Courtney Williams was named as a reserve, as she received a call from the WNBA commissioner before telling Reeve she’d be coaching. But Kayla McBride and Alanna Smith have missed out on a place on the team, something Reeve does not understand. It came as Caitlin Clark’s “sick” WNBA comment was captured off-camera

Speaking after her team’s win over Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, Reeve said: “I don’t know why only Phee and Courtney are All-Stars when you have the best team in the league by a few games.

“There are teams that are below us in the standings by a lot that have three All-Stars.

“Historically, teams at the top get a minimum of three, oftentimes four

“Really disappointing. Really, really happy for Courtney.”

Collier is currently the runaway player to win this year’s MVP award while putting in another strong performance against the Sky with 21 points and seven rebounds

Caitlin Clark’s Indiana has a 9-9 record, but the Fever have three players in the All-Star Game.

The Seattle Storm currently boasts a 12-7 record, with three players named to the roster.

Reeve has been announced as the head coach for Clark’s team, meaning she’ll be against her star player, Collier, this weekend.

New York Liberty’s Sandy Brondello will be the opposition’s head coach.
