Caitlin Clark can only laugh as Diana Taurasi makes up for WNBA dig
WNBA legend Diana Taurasi had stated that Caitlin Clark would struggle in her WNBA rookie season after dominating in college, before going on to be one of the candidates for MVP and being an All-Star
Caitlin Clark laughed as Diana Taurasi made a joke at her own expense after insinuating she was wrong about the comments she made one year ago on the former’s transition from college basketball to the WNBA.
Heading into her rookie season after dominating in college with Iowa, Clark had been seen as the best basketball player to enter the league perhaps ever – shattering numerous records in the NCAA.
But Taurasi, a 20-year WNBA veteran and one of the greatest players of all-time had stated that ‘reality is coming’ for Clark while predicting that she may struggle early on in her career
Speaking to ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt back in April 2024, Taurasi said: “Look… Reality is coming [for Clark]. There’s levels to this thing. And that’s just life. We all went through it. You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side. You look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds, but you’re going to [be playing against] some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”
She went on to add: “Not saying [Clark’s skills] are not gonna translate, because when you’re great at what you do, you’re just gonna get better. But there is gonna be a transition period where you’re gonna have to give yourself some grace as a rookie.”
Taurasi would go on to proved wrong almost immediately, as Clark became the star player for the Indiana Fever and almost single-handedly turning them into a playoff team from being the worst roster in the WNBA.

Clark had gained a fan in Taurasi over the season with the two seen speaking on multiple occasions, and on Sunday the now-retired WNBA legend laughed at her own comments.
She said: “Unfortunately reality is coming to me now,” joking on her former comments while admitting she was wrong after he retirement.
Clark, seemingly aware of the comments could not hold back her laughter while tilting her head back and enjoying the comments while on the air on ESPN’s new ‘Bird and Taurasi’ show.
The WNBA is still five weeks away from returning, with Clark beginning her preseason training in the next few weeks before suiting up for the first time in 2025 on May 17.
