Just moved into the new house 3 days ago, my husband brought his whole family to do fingerprints, I immediately sold the house and said something that made him speechless..
Three days ago, Priya thought she was the happiest woman in Pune. After 5 years of marriage with Rajesh, they finally owned their first house in both their names. It was the result of years of hard work, saving every penny, even selling the wedding ring her biological mother gave her to raise enough money.
The house is small but warm – the home that Priya had dreamed of. She meticulously chose curtains, bed sheets, and was happy like a child when hanging decorative paintings with her husband. She thought that from here, they would have a new start – peaceful, private and happy.
However, everything fell apart after just one afternoon.
That was the third day after moving in, Priya was arranging the kitchen when she heard the doorbell. Opening it, she was stunned to see Rajesh’s entire family – mother-in-law, two younger sisters, a younger brother and his wife – dragging suitcases, carrying big and small bags, smiling happily.
“The new house is so beautiful, so spacious, the whole family can live here!” – her mother-in-law exclaimed.
Before Priya could react, Rajesh ran out, smiling brightly:
“Hello, Mom! Come in, Mom, I’ve called the technician to install fingerprints for the whole family. Mom, the siblings, everyone has their own fingerprints for convenience in entering and exiting!”
Priya was stunned.
“What did you say? Who told you to let everyone register their fingerprints?” – she asked tremblingly.
Rajesh replied calmly:
“This house is also my house, my mother and my siblings – they are all family. Living together is fun.”
Priya choked, her heart pounding. She clearly remembered her husband’s promise: “When we have our own house, I want it to be just the two of us, no one else will interfere.” He nodded, but now, less than 3 days later, he had gone back on his word.
That afternoon, the whole family was bustling everywhere. The mother-in-law lay comfortably on the sofa, instructing Priya to cook dinner “for everyone”. The two sisters-in-law opened their suitcases and displayed clothes, cosmetics, and shoes all over the living room. The younger brother leisurely hung his coat in the living room, smiling and saying:
– “Luckily, my sister-in-law’s house is big, we don’t have to rent a room together!”
Priya was speechless. The house she had put all her heart and soul into suddenly became “Rajesh’s family dormitory”.
That night, when everyone was asleep, Priya sat in the living room, looking at the newly installed smart door – clearly showing 6 newly registered fingerprints. She felt as if each of those fingerprints was erasing the respect she had for her.
The next morning, Priya left home early, went to the bank and met the broker.
– “You’re selling so urgently, don’t you regret it?”
She smiled bitterly:
– “Of course I regret it. But I can’t live in a house where anyone can open the door and walk in at any time.”
That afternoon, Priya returned. Her husband’s family was happily eating and drinking. She placed the notice of sale of the house and the deposit contract in front of Rajesh. He was startled:
– “What are you doing? We just moved in!”
Priya looked at him calmly:
– “It’s not our house anymore. This is your family’s house. But I don’t want to live in a house where I have to ask permission to close the door.”
Rajesh stood up, his face red:
– “Are you crazy? This house has your name on it, you can’t sell it on your own!”
Priya gently placed the red book on the table. Under his name was her co-ownership signature. Her voice was calm:
– “Yes. I have the right. And I used it.”
The whole family of the husband was stunned. The mother-in-law’s eyes widened:
– “The bride dares to sell my son’s house? Do you think your money is everything?”
Priya smiled softly, tears falling:
– “My money is not everything. But it is the effort, the youth, the dream that I have devoted to this family. As for everyone, this is just a comfortable place to live.”
She turned to her husband, said the last sentence:..
– “You want to live with your mother, with your siblings – I don’t forbid it. But never call that place our home again. From today, I am no longer in there.”
Having said that, Priya picked up her suitcase and walked away.
That night, sleeping in a small rented room, with moldy walls, an iron door that creaked when the wind blew, she felt truly quiet for the first time in many years.
Three months later, the broker called to say the house had been transferred. Priya did not return to get anything – because the most precious thing she had brought with her was her self-respect.
As for Rajesh, he texted and called to beg her to come back. But every time he read the words “I miss you”, Priya just smiled bitterly. He did not miss her – he only missed the woman who had silently endured, giving all her privacy to his family. And that woman – had died the day he let his family register their fingerprints in the house.
A few days after leaving the new house, Priya lived in a small rented house in Pune, amidst the noisy sounds of the city but felt strangely peaceful inside. She knew Rajesh would not give up easily, and as expected, he kept texting, calling, and even asked his mother and sister to persuade her to return.
One afternoon, while Priya was shopping, Rajesh’s mother-in-law suddenly appeared in front of the rented house. She walked in, her voice stern and a little angry:
“Priya, daughter-in-law… this house is my son’s house, how dare you leave like that?”
Priya calmly looked at her, her voice calm:
“You have the right to call it the family’s house, but I am not the one who has to give in, live disrespectfully in my own home. I made it clear from the beginning: I want a home of my own.”
Mother-in-law glared, angry:
“Are you trying to destroy our family? Rajesh is your son, your husband!”
Priya frowned, her voice firm:
– “Family is not just about blood relatives. Family is a place where there is love, respect and trust. If I am just an outsider there, having to give in every minute and every second, then that is not my home.”
Mother-in-law looked at Priya, her eyes flashing with anger, but she did not give in. At that moment, Rajesh appeared, his face red, his hands clenched:
– “Priya, come back… I promise to change. Mom, I… everything will be different!”
Priya walked over, put her hand on Rajesh’s shoulder, looked straight into his eyes:
– “Have you forgotten? The day you registered the fingerprints of the whole family, I died in my own home. You only remember what you want, and I… I remember my youth, my dreams, my self-respect and my own happiness.”
The space was filled with silence. Mother-in-law swallowed, Rajesh’s sister and brother stood like stone statues. She continued:
– “If Rajesh really wants to be happy with me, you have to respect my personal space, my freedom and my right to decide. If not… I will continue on my own path, without hatred, but also without returning.”
Rajesh was silent, his eyes gradually showing regret but also helplessness. Priya turned around, took the small suitcase, opened the door and walked out. Her mother-in-law called out tremblingly:
– “Priya… you…”
She did not turn back, only said one sentence calmly:
– “From now on, my home is where I feel safe and respected. Any family that lacks that… sorry, I cannot belong.”
Leaving the boarding house, Priya took a deep breath, looking at the bustling city of Pune. In her heart, for the first time in many years, a feeling of freedom and strength filled her. She understood that happiness does not come from empty promises or a luxurious house, but from peace, respect and the right to decide one’s own life.
And in the glorious sunset of Pune, Priya knew she had made the right choice: to hold on to herself, to hold on to her dignity, and to open up a whole new future – where she was the true master of her own life.
