Angel Reese torn to bits for ‘creating controversy’ and ‘running best player out of town’
Angel Reese has been one of the standout names in the WNBA this year – but not everyone is behind the youngster.
Angel Reese has been blasted for actions that would get her ‘crucified if she were a male’ following the WNBA star’s first season in professional basketball.
Reese, along with Caitlin Clark, was one of the standout additions to the league this year, but her season was cut short early because of a wrist injury.
That hasn’t kept her out of the spotlight though, with the Chicago Sky ace a regular at US sporting events, including the recent WNBA final between New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx.
The 22-year-old donned a half-and-half jersey for the event, but it’s her venture into the podcasting world that has irked Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, the most.
Speaking on a Barstool video, Portnoy said: “The last time I saw Angel she had [Travis] Kelce’s ex [on her podcast].
“If a male was doing what Angel Reese is doing she would get crucified, regardless of skin colour, regardless of anything.
“She’s a rookie in the league whose team sucked, who a**ed out at the end of the season with an injury, who won’t shut up about herself, who ran their best player out of town, the coach got fired, and she started a podcast five seconds into the thing creating all this controversy.”
Clearly frustrated by Reese’s actions, he continued: “Imagine if your first round Draft pick had the season she had, the controversy she had, got injured in a questionable injury, a**ed out and then started a podcast gossiping about everything in the league as a rookie. Please.
“Meanwhile Caitlin is head down, just f***ing in the gym, you don’t hear a peep from her.”
Clark, who dominated the Rookie of the Year award, has already returned to training ahead of the 2025 season, even though this year’s campaign only finished a matter of days ago.
During a video posted to the official Indiana Fever X account, Clark is seen banging in three-pointers and bamboozling defenders.
A voiceover from Clark read: “I feel like I’m just scratching the surface. I feel like there are just so many areas I want to improve in and continue to get in the gym and work on that every single day.”
The WNBA enjoyed a year of record viewership and increased ticket sales – a boom attributed to Clark’s impact on the league.
