WNBA and Sparks legend Lisa Leslie has vowed to help Angel Reese with her biggest weakness.
“I can’t wait to work with you some more,” Leslie said on the latest episode of Reese’s “Unapologetically Angel” podcast. “The biggest advice I have for you is going to be how you shoot your layups.
“We’re going to fix that. That’s fixable for you.”
Reese had a strong rookie season last year with the Sky, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.
But she struggled with her finishing around the rim, shooting just 44.5 percent from within five feet of the basket, per the league’s advanced stats.
“I think your shot from the outside is improving, your ball-handling is good, your defense is improved,” Leslie said. “The fact that you be snatching that ball from girls, I be cracking up. Like ‘she got another one.’ I love the fact that you’re putting so much pressure on them defensively. And just, the idea that you want to get better, I love that.
“Again, I didn’t know you well. Just talking to you and just giving you some love. But then hearing you like ‘Yes, I want to learn, I want to work hard, I want to be better,’ my heart melted.”
Reese missed the end of her rookie season after suffering a wrist injury.
She had surgery to repair a small crack in a bone in her wrist.
But she has since recovered and has been playing with Unrivaled’s Rose Basketball Cub, where she is averaging 10.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
