Married for 5 Years with No Children — After One Night at My Sister-in-Law’s House, I Learned a Truth That Shook Me to My Core

That day, I was passing through Jaipur on a business trip and decided to stay the night at my sister-in-law’s house. It was already late, and she kindly offered me a place to sleep
My brother-in-law was away on his own business trip, so it was just the two of us women in the house. She made up the bed, and we settled in, chatting like sisters.
What I didn’t know was that this night would uncover a truth so painful, it would shatter my marriage of five years — overnight.
My name is Aditi Sharma. I’ve been married to Rohit Mehra for 5 years.
We loved each other deeply.
Ours was a seemingly perfect marriage — except for one missing piece: a child.
Months turned into years, filled with silent heartache.
I went from one hospital to another, tried Chinese medicine, acupuncture, hormone therapy — everything.
My mother-in-law, a strict woman, started to grow restless. Relatives whispered behind my back:
“What good is a beautiful wife if she’s infertile?”
Rohit, as always, remained calm. He’d hold my hand and comfort me:
“Children are blessings from heaven. Please don’t torment yourself over it.”
I thought I was lucky to have such a sensitive and understanding husband.
But as time passed, something started to feel… off.
Rohit never once volunteered to get tested.
Anytime I brought up the topic of children, he’d gently brush it aside.
He never got angry — but he never seemed truly interested, either.
I kept telling myself maybe he was scared. Maybe he felt pressured.
Until that fateful night — when I realized I had been living a lie for five years.
My sister-in-law, Priya, had always been soft-spoken and gentle.
To me, she was more than family — she was a friend.
That night, just as we were about to go to sleep, she suddenly broke down into tears.
At first, I thought she was having a nightmare. But through her sobs, she whispered:
“Aditi, I don’t know how much longer I can keep this from you. Rohit… he doesn’t deserve you.”
I sat up, my heart racing.
“What are you talking about? What’s wrong with Rohit?”
Priya sat upright, tears streaming down her face.
“I’ve known this for a long time, but I didn’t have the courage to tell you.
Before he married you, Rohit was madly in love with another woman.
She was older than him, and due to an affair, she got divorced. Our family was completely against it, but Rohit refused to listen. He wanted to marry her.”
I was stunned.
“And then?”
“Under immense family pressure, Rohit had to end it… and then marry you.
But Aditi, he never really let her go.”
Priya then told me that a few years ago, she had accidentally seen Rohit coming out of an apartment on the outskirts of Gurugram — with that same woman.
Not just that — she had a young son with her.
And that boy… was Rohit’s biological child.
I sat there frozen.
“No… this can’t be true…”
But Priya nodded, her eyes full of tears:
“I tried to convince him to stop.
But did you know… for the past five years, Rohit has been financially supporting both of them? And…”
She hesitated, then dropped the truth that took the air out of my lungs:
“He’s been secretly mixing birth control pills into your food, just to make sure you’d never get pregnant.”
I was stunned.
My whole body trembled. My throat tightened.
Years of waiting. Endless disappointment.
This wasn’t fate.
It was the very man who slept beside me every night.
The next morning, I returned home.
My face was blank.
Rohit was having breakfast and smiled like nothing had happened.
I sat down and looked him straight in the eyes:
“I know everything, Rohit.
About her.
About the child.
About the birth control pills.”
He was silent.
For several minutes, he said nothing.
Then he exhaled deeply, his voice shaky:
“I’m sorry, Aditi. I know I was wrong… but I didn’t know what to do.
I couldn’t abandon my child — but I also couldn’t let you have a baby in a marriage that was already hollow inside.”
I let out a bitter laugh — a dry sound echoing in our cold house.
“I never wanted to hurt anyone.
But somehow, I ended up hurting everyone anyway.”
No shouting. No drama.
I simply placed the divorce papers in front of him.
He signed them without hesitation.
The moment his pen touched the paper, I knew —
My life was about to turn a new page.
I left our home in Gurugram with just a few clothes and an old wedding photo.
I moved back to Jaipur to live with my parents — to start over.
At first, I was heartbroken.
Every night, I asked myself: Why did he betray me like that?
But then one day, I looked at myself in the mirror —
Thinner, tired, but with fire in my eyes.
And I realized:
“He may have stolen my chance to become a mother…
But he didn’t take away my right to begin again.”
I went back to work, joined a yoga class, and signed up to donate my eggs to infertile women — as a way of healing.
Every time I saw young mothers smiling, it filled me with warmth.
One morning, I received a message from Priya:
“Aditi, Rohit had an accident. He’s in the hospital.”
I stared at the message for a long time.
Then I simply replied:
“I hope he recovers.”
Today, I hold no resentment.
Because hate doesn’t bring back what’s lost.
I didn’t learn to forgive him —
I learned to forgive myself.
It’s been two years since the divorce.
And I’m no longer the weak, scared woman I once was.
I have a stable job, great friends, and a peaceful soul.
If someone asked me whether I still believe in love,
I’d say:
“Yes. But this time, I’ll love someone who not only wants me —
but also has the courage to face the truth with me.”
And every time I look up at the night sky in Delhi, I smile:
“Thank you, past — because of you, I learned to choose peace over illusion.”
Because sometimes,
losing a liar is the best way to find yourself again
