Last December, my ex-wife called to tell me she was getting married again. I was shocked, but also deeply happy. I thought that as long as my ex-wife remarried, my life would be at peace. But when it actually happened, I realized I wasn’t prepared at all…
I met my ex-wife at the age of 28 through a family engagement in New Delhi. At the time, our love wasn’t very deep, but our parents insisted we get married quickly. She—Ananya Sharma—is a capable, gentle, and hardworking woman.
Before marriage, I—Vikram Mehta—was running my own business. After marriage, Ananya followed me into the business world, working hard. Once, I had a serious capital problem. Without a word, she gave me all her savings, saying simply:
—If you lose everything, start again. Keep going, I’ll always be there for you.
I am forever grateful to her for this.
When Ananya was pregnant, my parents moved in with us from Ghaziabad. Then my sister got divorced and moved in with us. All the household work fell on Ananya’s shoulders. She often complained about my sister’s laziness, but I ignored it. I thought: I already work so much, and now I have more people around me. The house isn’t big, so there’s less work. So, I didn’t support my wife or resolve the conflicts in that cramped apartment in Dwarka.
When my work was going well, I distanced myself from my family. I met Riya—a gentle girl who knew how to listen. She made me feel valued, and every time I expressed my feelings, she felt relieved. Gradually, I began an affair.
Ananya found out. She cried, broke things, and then asked for a divorce. Although my parents objected, she insisted on taking the child with her, and I didn’t keep her.
A month after the divorce, I married Riya because she told me she was pregnant. I felt like my life had taken a new turn, but life wasn’t easy.
My ex-wife kept calling me, saying that my son missed me and wanted me to come to his house. At first, I went to visit, but gradually Riya became angry, jealous, and started cursing me. Once, she even fought with my mother because she thought I was on Ananya’s side. There was no peace in the house anymore.
Riya always suspected that I still had feelings for my ex-wife. I was exhausted, and despite my repeated attempts to convince her, no one would listen to me. She asked me to help Ananya find someone to remarry so that she would have a place to live and no one would “bother” her.
I listened to her, and even invited Ananya on a few blind dates in Gurugram, but each time she would find some excuse to refuse. Each time, Rhea would get even angrier. Eventually, she asked for a divorce. I had to stop helping Ananya.
I broke off contact with her, never saw my ex-wife again. She never called again. I thought everything was calm.
Last December, Ananya called and told me she was getting married again. I was shocked, but also secretly happy. She invited me to come. I asked who the groom was, and she simply said:
— You’ll find out when you get there.
That day, I prepared meticulously. Partly out of curiosity, partly because I wanted to look cool. The wedding was at a banquet hall in Noida. But when the groom walked down the aisle, I was stunned. It was Rohit Malhotra—my best friend, the same one who was best man at Ananya and my wedding. The same person who had called me brother, who had sat at the same table with us and shared stories from life.
I couldn’t believe my eyes. My heart felt like it was being crushed. I didn’t know whether to be happy or angry. Images of our wedding day flashed through my mind: Rohit was standing next to me, smiling and congratulating me; now he was carrying the bride in his arms amid the wedding music. What a coincidence!
After the wedding, I messaged Ananya and asked her why. She simply replied:
— Because he still loves me, he’s never changed.
One sentence pierced my heart like a needle. Could it be that Rohit had been secretly interested in Ananya for a long time?
Now, my business is falling apart. Riya doesn’t take care of the kids, neglects household chores, and fights with my mother all day long. My mother has repeatedly asked me to find a way to bring Ananya back, but now she has her own life.
At that moment, I knew I was wrong from the start. Every night, I think about my son living happily with his mother and… my old friend. It breaks my heart. Perhaps, I’ve lost the woman who once opened her heart to me.
