My Nurse WIFE – And the Secret Behind Her Nights…
My wife – Anjali – is a nurse, her shifts are so erratic that some weeks she can only be home three nights. I know her job is hard, so I am always patient and rarely upset. But recently, Anjali has been acting strangely, making me a little worried.
When I get home, she often blinks at her phone, and in the morning she even takes the time to cook, and the family meal gradually becomes warmer thanks to her. I am a little annoyed, but still try to sympathize – people in the medical profession, how many have time for themselves.
However, things went beyond my assurance on a rainy night. That time, I saw her wearing a pair of black socks – clearly men’s socks. I asked, Anjali just smiled lightly:
“It’s too cold in the hospital, I just went to the grocery store to buy a pair. We ran out of women’s socks.”
The answer seemed reasonable, but I still had doubts in my heart.
Tonight, the rain was drizzling outside the porch, I gently hugged her, trying to find some warmth. Anjali gently pushed me away, saying she was tired. I turned around, but drowsiness came. The image of her black socks and her evasive eyes lingered in my mind.
Suddenly, the “ting” sound from the phone rang. I opened my eyes and saw Anjali turn back, holding the phone to read the message. I just caught a glimpse of the words:
“Go downstairs.”
My heart was pounding. Who would text their wife at midnight like this? It couldn’t be a colleague. I lay still, pretending to sleep, watching her every move.
A moment later, Anjali gently got out of bed, opened the door and went out. I quietly followed, feeling both angry and worried. Standing on the stairs, I only heard one sentence she whispered over the phone:
“Don’t tell my husband…”
My heart felt like it was tightening. That sentence kept repeating all night, until it was almost dawn when I realized.
The next morning, the sunlight gently filtered through the door. I woke up, saw a shiny umbrella key on the bedside table, with a small piece of paper with Anjali’s familiar handwriting…“Happy birthday. I saved all year and borrowed a little more to buy you a car. The days I said I was going to find a car, do the paperwork… I hope you like it.”
I laughed, tears rolling down. It turned out that the secret messages, the late nights, the black socks yesterday… were all to hide this surprise gift.
Outside, the rain was still light, but my heart was strangely warm. I gently held the key in my hand, tears falling onto the small piece of paper – relaxing, as if to soothe a night of doubt and anxiety
Warm Secrets After Rainy Nights
In the following days, I began to pay more attention to every little detail in Anjali’s life. No more doubt or skepticism, but understanding and appreciation. Every evening when she came home, even though she was tired after a long shift, I saw a sparkling light in her eyes – the light of secrets and love for me.
One Friday night, when the rain outside the porch was falling like silver threads, Anjali turned to me, holding my hand tightly:
“Honey, I know you’ve been worried for a long time. But all I do, I just want you to be happy. Actually… I want you to feel that no matter how tired you are at work, this family always has me here, by your side.”
I was speechless. In three years of marriage, I had never felt such warmth from her. Not flowery words, nor expensive gifts – but every silent action, every silent gesture of care.
One morning, Anjali asked me to follow her to the terrace. It was still early, the gentle sunlight filtering through the thin layer of clouds, covering the old Mumbai-style building where we lived. In her hand was a small, delicately carved wooden box.
“This gift… is for you, not for your birthday, not for any holiday. Just… to let you know that I am thinking of you all the time.”
I opened the box, and inside was an antique gold watch, carved with the lotus flower – a symbol of purity and longevity in Indian culture. Touching it, I could hear Anjali’s heartbeat synchronizing with mine, reminding me that love is not always loud, but sometimes lies in the smallest actions.
In the following days, our old habits began to change. I realized, from the late-night messages, the sneaky gestures, to the surprise gifts… all were Anjali’s way of keeping the flame of our love burning.
One evening, while sitting together on the balcony looking at the shimmering yellow lights of the city, Anjali gently leaned her head on my shoulder:
“Honey… there are nights when I work late, I know you worry. But I want you to know, no matter how much rain and storms there are outside, here, in this small house, you always have me.”
I held her hand, feeling as if all our fatigue and anxiety over the years had disappeared. For the first time in my life, I understood that love is not just presence, but also silent sacrifice, warm secrets that only two people know.
And from then on, regardless of the long shifts, regardless of the rainy nights outside Mumbai, I always knew that: behind all doubts, all worries, is a silent but eternal love, like the Ganges River flowing forever – silently but never stopping
