My wife always wears a red gown at midnight.
Episode 1
The first time I saw my wife in a red gown at midnight, I thought it was normal.
I thought I knew everything about her. But there was one thing I never knew about her… her nights.
Gradually, I started to notice something strange.
Every night, she would go to sleep in her usual nightgown. But exactly at midnight, I would find her standing there in a red gown. By morning… she would be back in her normal clothes.
The first night, I ignored it. The second night, I told myself it was a coincidence. But by the third night, I realized it wasn’t a mistake. And sometimes… she wouldn’t even be in bed.
One morning, I asked her:
“Honey, sometimes I see you in a red gown at night. But by morning… you’re wearing something else. Why do you change clothes?”
She paused, then laughed softly.
“Me? A red gown? Come on, darling. You worry too much. I already told you, I don’t even like red.”
She smiled and hugged me tightly.
But I could sense that
she was hiding something.
That night, I resolved to stay awake and catch her. But no matter how hard I tried, I always fell asleep, and by morning, she would smile, pat me gently, and say, “Darling, it’s 6 in the morning.”
I was shocked; I couldn’t remember when I had fallen asleep.
Did you know what I was doing?
I was restless, so I thought of a more sensible way. If I could take off that red gown before midnight, maybe I would finally find out the truth.
That evening, I took her to her favorite movie theater. She was so focused on the screen, laughing at every scene, that she didn’t notice my gaze.
“Honey,” I said casually, “Do you like ice cream?”
Her face lit up. “Of course. You know I can’t say no.”
I smiled and pretended to eat the ice cream.
But instead, I drove home and went straight to the closet.
I threw my clothes aside, desperate to find it. Then my eyes fell on something buried deep down. A flash of red.
My hands trembled as I searched for it.
And then
a voice came from behind me.
“What are you looking for?”
I froze.
It was my wife.
This time… she wasn’t smiling. Episode 2 – The Secret of the Red Gown
I turned slowly, holding the edge of the closet.
There she was—my wife, Elena, standing at the door. But she wasn’t the gentle, sweet woman I’d married.
Her eyes glinted faintly in the dim light, her face was pale, and a cold smile graced her lips.
“Honey… why are you home?” I stammered. “I thought you were still watching a movie.”
She slowly took a step forward.
“You shouldn’t have come back.”
My heart began to pound. My eyes fell on the red dress I’d unwrapped. A gown.
“Elena… what is this gown? Why do you always wear it at night?”
For a moment, she said nothing. She just stared. Then, with a strange calm, she said:
“This gown… isn’t just clothing. It’s a door.”
My hands trembled. “A door? Whose?”
She smiled even more.
“Where my home is.”
The Truth of Midnight
Before I could say anything, the clock struck midnight.
The room grew unnaturally cold. The lights flickered. The red gown in my hands grew warm—so warm, as if alive. Suddenly, it slipped from my grip and floated towards her.
The gown slid over her body as if waiting. In an instant, Elena was enveloped in red, her eyes now red.
“Elena… please… you’re scaring me,” I whispered.
She bowed her head, her voice low, almost sad:
“I tried to keep you away from this. I wanted to live a normal life with you. But this gown won’t let me stay away. At midnight, I have to wear it. I have to return…”
“Where do I return?” I asked.
Her lips trembled. “To them.”
Visitors
The wardrobe behind her creaked open—by itself.
Not near shelves or hangers… but near darkness. A swirling black void stretched before her. From that void, shadows began to creep—tall, thin figures with hollow eyes, whispering in voices that sent shivers down my spine.
“Elena… come back… come back to us…” they hissed.
I stumbled backward in fear. “What are they?!”
Tears filled her eyes as she clutched the wardrobe frame. “They are my family. I never wanted to live in your world. This gown binds me to them. At midnight… I must return. At dawn, I will return to you.”
I shook my head vehemently. “No. You’re my wife. You should be here. With me!”
For the first time, his voice broke. “If you truly love me… then you have to let me go. If you try to stop me, they’ll take you too.”
Last Option
The shadows drew closer to me, whispering my name now. My blood ran cold.
“Elena, don’t leave me!” I pleaded.
He extended a trembling hand to me, his eyes pleading. “Promise me… promise you’ll remember me the way I was. Not like this. Don’t come after me, darling. Please…”
And before I could stop him, the shadows pulled him into the void. The wardrobe slammed shut.
Epilogue
The next morning, the sun shone through the curtains. I sat on the floor, staring at the wardrobe. It looked normal, as if nothing had happened. Her white, delicate nightgown lay neatly folded on the bed.
But she was gone.
No note. No trace. Just the faint scent of her perfume lingered in the air.
And then… as the clock struck midnight again that night…
The wardrobe creaked.
And I saw her.
The red gown, glowing dimly in the darkness, hung alone on the door.
