The day I found out I was pregnant, his mother came with 50 lakh rupees and asked me to leave her son.
I still remember that fateful day clearly. In the morning, the pregnancy test showed two clear lines, and my heart skipped a beat. Joy, worry, shock—every emotion mixed together. Before I could tell my boyfriend Arjun this good news, the doorbell rang.
His mother, Mrs. Shalini, stood before me with cold eyes and a shiny black leather briefcase.
She said without hesitation:
“Take this 50 lakh rupees and leave my son,” she said, her voice calm but sharp as a knife. The briefcase was placed on the table, and when it was opened, it revealed neatly stacked piles of money.
I was stunned. Arjun and I had been in love for three years, overcoming many difficulties, but his family had always objected because I was a small-town girl from Kanpur, and it wasn’t a good match for me. I tried to explain, but Mrs. Shalini interrupted:
“You don’t deserve this. Don’t force me to take any more drastic steps.”
I looked at the money, my heart aching. I wanted to scream, to talk about the child in my womb, but her eyes left me speechless. Perhaps, I thought, this was the best way to protect my child’s future. I took the money without a word and left. I didn’t see Arjun, didn’t leave a letter, just quietly disappeared from his life.
Lonely Days
I moved to a small town in Lucknow, where no one knew me. 50 lakh rupees was enough for me to start afresh, rent a small apartment, buy essentials, and make ends meet. But every night, I held my stomach, silently shedding tears. I remembered Arjun, the moments when we had promised a happy future. I told myself, as long as the baby is healthy, all the pain is worth it.
The day of delivery arrived unexpectedly. The pain was so unbearable that I nearly fainted on the way to the hospital. I barely heard the nurse ask who would pay the hospital bill, then I fainted from exhaustion.
When I woke up, I found myself in the recovery room, my baby lying in an incubator. The doctor said I had been born prematurely, but the baby was fine and just needed monitoring.
The Letter in the Envelope
“The nurse said your hospital bill has been paid,” a young nurse told me, bringing me water. “They left an envelope for you.”
With trembling hands, I opened the envelope, and inside was a small piece of paper with Arjun’s familiar handwriting:
“I found you. Never leave me again, you and the baby.”
Bottom was an ultrasound photo – the one I’d kept in my wallet, the only thing I’d left behind when I left.
I burst into tears. Arjun had found me. Not his mother, not anyone else, just Arjun – the one who paid the hospital bills, the one who loved me even when I disappeared for no reason. It turned out he’d been secretly searching for me all these months, following the trail of the ultrasound photo I’d left behind.
Reunion
That day, when Arjun entered the hospital room, his eyes were as gentle as they were when we first met.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” he asked, choking back tears.
I told him everything – about the 5 million rupees, about his mother, about my fears and love for my child.
Arjun hugged me and promised he would never let anyone separate us again.
A Little Family
Today, watching my little girl sleep peacefully in Arjun’s arms, I realized I made the right decision not to give up.
Money can buy silence, but not love.
And I – on one unforgettable lucky day, I found my family again.
Part 2: When his mother learned the truth
The day I was discharged from the hospital, Arjun insisted on taking me and my baby back to his apartment in Delhi. I was scared and hesitant:
“If your mother finds out, she will never accept you and the baby.”
Arjun took my hand, his eyes firm:
“It’s time for you to face the truth. I won’t let you and the baby hide any longer.”
That Fateful Encounter
That afternoon, Mrs. Shalini suddenly appeared. Seeing me, she was stunned, her eyes sparkling with surprise as she looked at the baby sleeping in the crib.
“This… is…?” she stammered.
Arjun stepped forward, his voice firm:
“My child. Your grandson. The person you almost made me lose forever.”
The air in the room seemed to freeze. Mrs. Shalini trembled, came closer, her eyes filling with tears as she looked at that little sleeping face. Suddenly, she burst into tears:
“Oh my God… I was wrong. I was blinded by pride and money, and almost ruined my child’s happiness. Little girl, please forgive me…”
Forgiveness
I was speechless. All the anger came flooding back, but when I saw that elderly woman kneeling in front of the baby’s crib, my heart melted. I said in a trembling voice:
“I’ve endured a lot, but it was all because I love Arjun and this child. I just hope that from now on, we can truly be a family.”
Mrs. Shalini covered her face and sobbed. For the first time, she was no longer the cold, authoritarian woman, but a mother who had realized her mistake.
A New Beginning
From that day on, she was completely transformed. She made porridge for me herself to nourish me, and cared for the baby with boundless love. Relatives and friends were all astonished to see this change in Mrs. Shalini.
As for me, I understand that sometimes the most painful days are turning points for a family to learn to truly love.
Conclusion
Today, as I watch Arjun play with his daughter in the courtyard, and his mother-in-law sits next to me, smiling gently, I secretly thank fate. If it hadn’t been for that fateful day, I might never have seen this moment.
Money can separate, but love and affection—if true—make everything right.
