Neera Chauhan and Razak: A Triumph of Humanity

The morning sun shone on the streets of Lucknow. A line of auto-rickshaws lined the streets near Charbagh Railway Station. Among them, an old yellow-green auto-rickshaw was slowly moving. Its driver was Razak, a thin man in his 40s, with simplicity in his eyes and wrinkles on his face. He was looking for passengers without any chatter, full of hope that today would be a better day so that he could buy medicine for his ailing wife and pay his son’s school fees.

Just then, a woman approached the auto. She was wearing a simple blue suit, dark glasses, and a light scarf on her head. Her face was tired, but her gait was confident. Razak stopped the auto and asked, “Where are you going, madam?”

The woman said softly, “Bakshi’s Pond, quickly.”

On the way, the woman was silent, repeatedly clutching her bag. Half an hour later, her breathing became heavy, and she suddenly collapsed on the seat, unconscious. Razak panicked, picked her up, and ran to a nearby private hospital. Running up the hospital stairs, he called for doctors, and the nurses immediately took her to the emergency room.

The woman was no ordinary woman, but Neera Chauhan, a flamboyant IPS officer of the state, who was on a mission to catch a dangerous human trafficking ring. Someone had poisoned her on the way, causing her to faint. But Razak’s help saved her life.

When Neera regained consciousness at the hospital, she spoke to Razak. Razak came hesitantly, bowed his head, and said, “Madam, I helped you just because you considered me a human being.”

Neera smiled and said, “And that’s the most important thing. You considered me a human being, not a position.”

Razak explained that he drives an auto-rickshaw and works hard from morning to evening. He has a son who wants to study, but paying the fees is difficult. His simplicity deeply impressed Neera.

Neera gave Razak a small camera and wireless device and said she wanted to use it to access the trafficking network. Razak readily agreed.

A few days later, Razak recorded a conversation between a suspect planning human trafficking. He shared this evidence with Neera. Neera, along with her team, conducted a raid and rescued several girls. During this, it was discovered that the mastermind of the gang was Vivek Singh, the son of a powerful state minister. The pair of Neera and Razak faced numerous dangers. Razak risked his life several times to provide information and identify suspects. One night, when Razak reported a major deal, Neera alerted the entire team. Police surrounded the warehouse and several members of the gang were arrested.

While arresting Vivek Singh, Neera said, “You’ve been evading justice for so many years, now you’ll get justice.”

Razak also received an honor. The Governor honored him by calling him a “Sentinel of Humanity.” Razak said, “My father used to say, ‘If humanity doesn’t survive, nothing will survive.’ I just kept doing that.”

Neera started a new initiative, “Jan Prahari,” which trains ordinary citizens to prevent crime. Razak became a part of this campaign and teaches young boys the lesson of honesty.

Neera was no longer just a protector of the law, but a protector of humanity. Razak’s story shows that true bravery and honesty are the first victory in any great battle.

End

This story teaches us that every person has the power to bring about change. No matter who they are, no matter what their circumstances, if they have humanity in their hearts, they can change the world. Neera and Razak’s friendship and struggle are a living example of this.
