Caitlin Clark brutally snubbed by WNBA GMs as decision comes to light

Caitlin Clark was not selected by WNBA General Managers as the projected winner of the 2025 MVP award despite a historic Rookie of the Year season that ended the Fever’s seven-year playoff drought

Caitlin Clark may have carried a struggling Indiana Fever into playoff contention with one of the most electrifying rookie seasons in WNBA history, but league general managers think the young superstar is still ways away from securing her first MVP award in 2025.

The league released the results of its annual WNBA GM survey, which polls front-office decision-makers on 40 questions ranging from title predictions to player awards. While GMs were not permitted to vote for their own players or personnel, the collective group selected Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier as the frontrunner for the league’s most prestigious individual honor.

Collier finished second in MVP voting last season behind Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson. But this season, Collier earned 67 percent of the votes to take home the award in 2025, while Wilson was a fraction at 25 percent, and Clark earned just 8 percent

Collier averaged 20.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, and nearly four assists per game last season, leading Minnesota to the WNBA Finals, where they fell to the New York Liberty. Her postseason performance was even more potent than the regular season, with the forward’s field goal percentage climbing to 52 percent and increasing her production across the board.

Clark may not be the MVP favorite, but the GM still believes the 23-year-old star is set to make a mega impact. The Fever have a 91 percent chance of making the playoffs after making an even 20-20 record last season and missing the playoffs for the past seven years before her arrival.

Half of the WNBA GMs picked Clark as the player they would choose to build a franchise around. The Fever star also tied with three-time WNBA champion Chelsea Gray as the league’s best point guard, though Gray was selected during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Clark has already started to conquer the 2025 WNBA season following the Fever’s 108-44 lopsided victory over Brazil in a preseason contest. The sharpshooter drained four of her six 3-point attempts and finished the game with 16 points in 18 minutes of play. Indiana is undefeated through all three preseason games this year against the Washington Mystics, the Brazil national team, and the Atlanta Dream.

The Fever kicks off the regular season on May 17 with a matchup against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. Pre-game betting odds are locked at even, with the match airing on ABC, ESPN+, and Disney+ streaming services. All but six of the team’s games will be nationally televised this season on ESPN, NBATV, ION, and more.

Games not nationally shown for the Fever will air on Prime Video, featuring marquee matchups against the Las Vegas Aces, Golden State Valkyries, and others. Collier famously said it’s “kind of crazy” that the Fever will be on national TV more than any team, including the champion Liberty.
