When the divorced wife gave birth in the same hospital where her ex-husband was a doctor…

The emergency ward at the hospital was in chaos. On a stretcher lay a pregnant woman, Neha, writhing in pain. Her face was slick with sweat, and worry was clearly etched in her eyes. Sister Anju and a junior doctor attended to her. Sister Anju patted Neha’s hand and said, “Don’t be afraid. You’re safe now. The doctor will be here any moment.” Neha’s vision blurred, but she tried to muster courage
Just then a man in a white coat — Dr. Akash — rushed into the emergency ward. There was professionalism in his eyes, and yet a strange restlessness. He asked the junior doctor, “What’s wrong with her?” The junior doctor replied, “Sir, she is seven months pregnant. She suddenly developed severe abdominal pain and bleeding.” Dr. Akash moved toward the patient, and when his eyes fell on Neha’s face, he froze for a moment. His face drained of color. This was Neha — his ex‑wife, from whom he had divorced six months ago.
Neha, too, was stunned to see Akash. Amid pain, old wounds resurfaced in her eyes. Their gazes met, and for a moment time seemed to stop. Neha was shifted to a private room. She lay on the bed, an IV drip in her arm. Sister Anju stood beside her and said, “You’re out of danger now, but you must rest completely.”
In a quiet voice, Neha asked, “Is my baby okay?” Sister Anju smiled and replied, “Yes, your baby is absolutely fine. Doctor Akash himself is handling your case.” Tears filled Neha’s eyes. The very person she had severed ties with was now the one saving her life — and her child’s.
The door opened and Akash entered. Sensing the tension, Sister Anju stepped out. A hush fell over the room. Akash hesitated before speaking, “How are you feeling now?” Without turning to him, Neha replied, “Better than before.” Akash said, “You should have taken care of yourself, Neha. In this condition, alone…” Neha met his eyes and said, “One learns to live alone, Doctor.” Her retort cut through Akash’s heart. He tried to speak, but words stuck in his throat.
Morning light filtered in through the window. Neha was feeling much better now. Akash had stayed in the hospital all night, repeatedly checking on her. Sister Anju arrived with breakfast and said, “Doctor Akash worried about you the whole night. He didn’t once go home.” Hearing this, a strange expression crossed Neha’s face. She recalled the days when Akash used to care for her in the same way.
A while later, Akash returned with Neha’s reports in hand. He said, “Your reports are normal. But you’ll need to remain under observation for a few more days.” Neha thanked him. Akash came closer and said, “I know what happened between us was…” Before he could continue, Neha interrupted, “I don’t want to discuss that.” Akash said, “But I do, Neha. If that day I had stopped you, maybe today…” Tears welled in Neha’s eyes.
Akash had no response. Tears began to fall from their eyes — tears of joy, of a new beginning. The walls of that hospital had not only saved the life of a mother and her baby but had also brought two broken hearts back together. Sometimes life gives us a second chance — we just have to recognize it.
This story teaches us that difficulties sometimes arise in relationships, but true love and care always find a new path. Emotional tales like this remind us how wonderful the power of love and compassion can be.
