WNBA star Sophie Cunningham had a one-word reaction to the big Caitlin Clark announcement on Sunday afternoon.
The WNBA announced on Sunday that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier will be serving as the captains of the 2025 All-Star Game, which is set to take place later in July.
Clark, who is in just her second year, is averaging 19 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds per game. She’s been dealing with injuries as of late, though her fans still showed out during the 2025 All-Star Game voting process. Clark received close to 1.3 million votes for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game.
The league announced her major honor on Sunday.
“Clark and Collier earned the role of captains by virtue of being the two All-Star starters who received the most fan votes. Clark received 1,293,526 votes from fans and Collier received 1,176,020,” the league announced.
“Clark is averaging 18.2 points and a career-high 8.9 assists per game. Collier ranks No. 1 in the WNBA in scoring (a career-high 24.5 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (8.4 rpg) while guiding the Lynx to a league-best 13-2 record.”
Cunningham, who was traded from the Phoenix Mercury to the Indiana Fever this offseason, had a one-word reaction to the big All-Star Game announcement over the weekend. She’s excited for her teammate.
Cunningham had a one-word reaction to the big news on social media. She immediately took to Instagram to share her reaction to the All-Star Game announcement.
“Gang,” she wrote.
Cunningham, who starred collegiately at Missouri, has been serving as a major protector of Clark in the Indiana Fever backcourt. She took out Sun guard Jacy Sheldon following a heated game earlier in June. Sheldon had hit Clark in the eye earlier in the contest.
The Fever guard made it clear that she would be doing everything she could to serve as an enforcer for Clark in the Indiana Fever backcourt.
